MALANG | MALIKI ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY - The Environmental Engineering Study Program of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang demonstrates a real collaboration between lecturers, students, and santri through the Community Development Program (CDP) activity titled “Assessment and Education of Sanitation Water Quality to Support the Environmental Health of Islamic Boarding Schools.” This event took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Daarul Ukhuwah Putri 1 Islamic Boarding School in Cemorokandang, Kedungkandang District, Malang City.
A total of 70 female santri participated in the education and assessment of sanitation water quality alongside the Environmental Engineering team from UIN Malang. The boarding school environment, with its dense activities, is deemed to require good sanitation management to prevent the emergence of environmentally-based diseases and to maintain the comfort of the students' learning activities.
In this activity, the Environmental Engineering lecturers acted as mentors, providing understanding regarding clean water quality parameters and assisting in sanitation assessments. Meanwhile, students also served as field facilitators, accompanying the female santri in hands-on practice of water quality testing using portable laboratory equipment.
The female santri, together with the students, conducted water sample measurements using a pH meter and turbidimeter to determine the quality level and turbidity of the water used daily in the boarding school environment. The assessment process was interactive, featuring two-way discussions between lecturers, students, and the female santri about the importance of maintaining a healthy environmental sanitation.
UIN Malang's Environmental Engineering lecturer, Lusi Ulisfah, M.T., stated that this activity is expected to raise awareness among the managers and female santri regarding the importance of sanitation water quality. “Through this activity, it is hoped that the female santri and the boarding school managers can better understand the importance of sanitation water quality in creating a healthy, comfortable environment that supports learning activities in the boarding school,” said Lusi Ulisfah, M.T.
Through this activity, the Environmental Engineering program at UIN Malang demonstrates its commitment to providing education that has a direct impact on the community. The collaboration between lecturers, students, and santri is expected to be a sustainable step in maintaining the environmental health of the boarding school and building sanitation awareness based on education.
