MALIKI ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY — The research culture is considered an important part of the academic world as it can foster critical thinking and enhance the quality of students. This was stated by Dr. Indah Yuliana, S.E., M.M., who believes that higher education institutions must continue to encourage students to actively engage in research from an early stage.
According to her, research is not merely about fulfilling academic assignments, but also serves as a means for students to understand various social and academic issues around them. Through research, students are trained to seek credible references, process data, and compile quality scientific writings.
“Through research, students will become accustomed to critical thinking and develop sensitivity to various emerging issues. The campus becomes a vast space to explore many things,” she said.
She explained that the research process also helps students build scientific writing skills, which differ from speaking abilities. Therefore, the culture of writing and publication needs to be continuously strengthened within the higher education environment.
In addition, the results of students' research are expected not to be confined to the courtroom or library, but to be published in order to provide broader benefits to society.
In supporting the research culture, the Faculty of Economics at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is said to continuously provide various support to students, ranging from competition assistance, funding for journal publications, to academic appreciation for students who successfully publish scientific articles in reputable journals.
According to Dr. Indah, the consistency of this support is evidence that research has become an important part of the academic development of students within the campus environment.
